An established Shrewsbury restaurant is to relocate to larger nearby premises in the town centre in the new year.

Avatar, a Nepalese and Indian restaurant, has been popular with diners since opening in the heart of Shrewsbury in 2014.

It is now preparing to make the short move from its current premises at 22-23 Mardol to 49 Mardol.

The substantial Grade II Listed restaurant property, which will be Avatar’s new home, extends to 2,437 sq ft, with a further 1,937 sq ft of mezzanine storage area.

The owners of Avatar hope the new larger restaurant will be ready to launch next March or April, with Avatar to continue welcoming customers to its current premises at 22-23 Mardol until then.

They said: “We have decided to relocate to a bigger place just across the road. It will be easy for our loyal and regular customers to find us, and there will be room for more covers.

“It’s time for us to change something different. We are very excited and we are very thankful for our local, loyal customers.

“We can provide more flexibility and comfort for our guests. We are very eager to create something new and bring some different flavours as well.”

The property at 49 Mardol – previously home to Nerdy, a board game cafe – benefits from a prominent town centre location.
